It is with an appropriate amount of sadness that we regretfully must announce that The Grand Salami will no longer publish a print edition starting with the 2018 season.

Motter fooled us all early last season—when pressed into duty by an injury to shortstop Jean Segura, he looked like a star in he making, putting up an early .321/.387/.786 line that seemed too good to be true. And it was. By the end of April he was down to .225/.286/.535 and he would fall all the way to .204 before being optioned to Tacoma. He spent four weeks in Triple-A and earned another shot, but from his return in August through the end of the year only managed to hit .170 in 47 at-bats. His value was in his versatility—he played first, second, third, short, left, and right last year—but with the arrival of Andrew Romine, Motter's utility isn't special anymore and he figures to, at best, ride the Tacoma shuttle a lot this year if he even stays with the organization.
