He doesn't generate a lot of headlines, but Pazos is quietly becoming a very good relief pitcher. He put up nice minor-league numbers in the Yankees' system, and is his rookie season with the Mariners last year used his two-pitch arsenal to strike out 65 batters in 5323 innings. He hasn't done it with a lot of consistency yet—his July 9.95 ERA was followed by an 0.90 mark in August, for instance—but he has the stuff to dominate if he hits his spots. His slider has seemed unhittable at times, other times he seems to throw it with all the control of Nuke LaLoosh, but even then it can be "effectively wild."

It's possible Pazos may find himself in another of Jerry Dipoto's many trades; over the offseason, Dipoto said, teams asked about the availability of Pazos more than any other player. “You don’t find a lot of 26-year-old lefties who throw in the mid-90s, who are making close to league minimum, who have gone out and shown that they can be effective in the big leagues.”
