It's September, which means Major League roster limits expand from 25 to 40 for the rest of the regular season. Who have the Mariners added? Well, today we saw a number of moves:
- James Paxton was activated from the disabled list. He starts tonight in Oakland.
- Relievers James Pazos, Ryan Cook, and Chasen Bradford return to the team from Tacoma.
- Catcher David Freitas likewise returns from Tacoma.
- Newcomers RHP Justin Grimm and IF/OF Kristopher Negrón promoted from Tacoma.
For some reason, the club also subtracted two players—RHPs Christian Bergman (outrighted to Tacoma) and Rob Whalen (DFA'd). Why? No idea.
Tacoma's season ends Monday, and more players from the Rainiers may come up after that. First baseman Daniel Vogelbach, infielder Gordon Beckham, and more relievers are all expected back soon.
We (don't) believe
The Mariners lost 5½ games in the standings to Houston and 11½ games to Oakland since July 4th. Do they still have a realistic shot at the playoffs?
