Spring training statistics rarely mean anything, but Fletcher is trying to make his mean a trip to Seattle for Opening Day. The 25-year-old made his big-league debut last year and got lit up (12.46 ERA, just 413 IP), but is throwing to an under-2.00 ERA this spring. Of course, it's spring training and the sample size is about the same as his big-league sample, so...yeah, probably doesn't mean anything. But with the Mariner bullpen being (a) full of question marks and (b) heavy on right-handers and (c) oversized, it might mean enough to get Fletcher a seat. The 14th-round draft choice (2018) and onetime collegiate Pitcher of the Year in the American Athletic Conference probably should start the year at Triple-A; he's never pitched at that level after splitting 2019 between Class-A and Double-A ball, and in last season's action he was vastly overmatched. But one thing you can count on is for Seattle manager Scott Servais to make head-scratching, WTF-worthy pitching decisions, and the M's certainly don't appear to have any qualms about promoting guys more than one level at a time.

Whether or not he makes the team out of camp, it's likely we'll see Fletcher with the M's at some point this year. With so many variables swirling around a relief corps full of growing pains, injury reclamations, and castoffs, there's bound to be a lot of roster shuffling as the weeks wear on.
