Swarzak to the rescue(?)

The Mariners have activated right-handed reliever Anthony Swarzak from the injured list today, He will be available in the bullpen for tonight's tilt against the Angels.

Swarzak came to the M's in the Robinson Canó/Edwin Díaz trade with the Mets along with Jay Bruce and three prospects. To make room, reliever David McKay, who had not appeared in a game since being called up when Hunter Strickland went down, was optioned to Tacoma.

When healthy, Swarzak has been an effective late-inning reliever, but he's spent a lot of time not being 100% healthy. He has been better in odd-numbered years—3-1, 2.48 ERA in 2017, 0-0, 3.38 in ’15, 3-2, 2.91 in ’13; 0-2, 6.15 in even-numbered ’18, 1-2, 5.52 in ’16, 3-2, 4.60 in ’14, 3-6, 5.03 in ’12—so perhaps 2019 will be good to him and the M's.
